Relaxation, Meditation, The Sky, & Zazen

The holidays have passed and along with them, the accompanying stresses of the holiday season. But the stress hasn't eased up. For those of us in the Pacific Northwest, there has been the stress of more snow than we are accustomed to dealing with on our daily commute and then the flooding that followed. Parts of I-5 were closed due to water on the interstate, the mountain passes were closed due to avalanche danger and treacherous driving conditions, and peoples homes have either been flooded with water or slid off their foundation. No wonder we're feeling stressed!

As the new year begins (we are 10 days in to 2009), I think it's time to take a Time Out for some relaxation and meditation. I chose to look to the sky. Letting go of all the thoughts racing around in your brain and focusing on the clouds floating peacefully against the background of a beautiful blue sky can be very relaxing.

So I look up to the sky and all I see is gray sky and rain. Not to worry. As long as I have internet access I will find blue sky.

Stop. Breathe. Relax . . .



Another form of meditation is Zazen meditation. It is a Buddhist form of meditation that focusing on living in the moment and being undisturbed by unnecessary thought and attachment. Introduce yourself to Zazen by watching the following video:

Free Meditation Classes in Seattle
