Psychic Dogs Wanted

Is your dog psychic? OpenSourceScience wants to know.
OpenSource Science is a web-based collaborative project for facilitating the discussion and replication of controversial scientific experiments.

In this case, a controversial scientific experiment was originally performed by Dr. Rupert Sheldrake, a biologist, and former Fellow of Clare College, Cambridge University. Dr. Sheldrake completed a number of survey studies to find out how many pet owners had observed seemingly psychic abilities in their pets. Sheldrake found that 46% of dog owners had noticed psychic ability in pet owners surveyed in England and 45% in California. The psychic ability surveyed was the dog's ability to anticipate it's owners return home.

To read more about this study and studies that followed, go to OpenSourceScience. And if you think your dog is psychic, you may want to contact OpenSourceScience to participate in their experiment.
Does your dog seem to know when you’re coming home, even at odd hours? If so, your dog might be a great candidate for our experiment. If you and your dog would like become participants in one of our experiments please send us an email at:

Astrologer Predicts American Idol Winner

Update: It looks like Melinda Doolittle's two birth dates may have made it difficult for the astrologer to give an accurate reading. Jordin Sparks is our 2007 American Idol winner!!!
Blake Lewis came in second.

Astrologer Jeff Jawer, co-author of Barnes & Noble's Your Astrology Guide 2007, has predicted the 2007 American Idol winner. What does he have to say about the three finalists?

Blake Lewis from Bothell, WA : born on
July 21, 1981

The astrologer says:
The mood-setting Moon will be in Virgo, opposing his own Moon, while assertive Mars will be slinging arrows at Blake's cuddly Cancer planets. He's got plenty of solar support to his chart on May 26, but that may be too late.

Jordin Sparks : Born on December 22,1989.

The astrologer says:
Jordin has the strongest astrological patterns as the show winds up, but they aren't easy ones. Active Mars stresses her Jupiter, planet of expansion, on May 23, and the Sun opposes her birth Mars on May 24. If sheer planetary force is the key to success, then Jordin should be the favorite.
Melinda Doolittle apparently has two published birth dates -- October 6, 1977 and December 1, 1977. This make it more difficult to determine what is in the star for Melinda.
. . . going strictly by the numbers, Melinda's the astrological choice to win. She may not be the most likely hitmaker of the group, but 'Idol' fans' previous choices -- Taylor Hicks and Ruben Studdard -- show that being young and marketable is not required to win. The winner will probably be Melinda barely ahead of Jordin, with Blake coming in third.
(Jeff Jawer)

Update: It looks like Melinda Doolittle's two birth dates may have made it difficult for the astrologer to give an accurate reading. Jordin Sparks is our 2007 American Idol winner!!!
Blake Lewis came in second.

Psychic Sued by Electronic Frontier Foundation

Apparently psychic, Uri Geller, can bend more than spoons. He has his nose bent out of shape after a critic posted video that he claims contains copyrighted material.
Psychic and spoon bender, Uri Geller, recently sued Brian Sapient for posting a 13-minute video on YouTube. Geller claims that the video contains three seconds of copyrighted material.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation, who probably understands the Digital Millennium Copyright Act better than most of us, has jumped into action and is suing Psychic Geller on the grounds that three to ten seconds of video should be legally be considered 'fair use.'

The suit accuses Geller of misusing the Digital Millennium Copyright Act by misrepresenting a copyright claim in order to prod YouTube to remove the video and suspend Sapient's ability to upload more critical videos.

"Uri Geller may not like it when people question his paranormal abilities. However, he is not allowed to stifle public criticism by misusing the law," said foundation attorney Marcia Hoffman. "If the publication of a video does not infringe his copyright, then he cannot block its use -- it's as simple as that." (SFGate.com)

Looking for Metaphysical Health? Try The Soul Diet

The Soul Diet: Ten Steps Towards Metaphysical Health

Americans are not only becoming over saturated with trans fats and super sized meals, but also by an over saturation of media sound bytes, commercial hype, and excessive electronic communication on the Net and through text messaging.

Rabbi Yitzchak Goldman, speaker and outreach coordinator for the Seattle Kollel, an institute for the promotion of Jewish learning and experience, has written a book called The Soul Diet : Ten Steps Towards Metaphysical Health.
The Soul Diet is not just a how-to guide. It is a map that can lead you to discovery of purpose, joy and fulfillment.

If you are feeling overwhelmed by mental clutter and looking for a more meaningful life, maybe it is time to take a look at your Metaphysical Health and put yourself on a Soul Diet.

To get you motivated to read the book, Neeman House Publishers has announced an essay contest.

How it works:

1. Contestants go to souldiet.com where they download the free sample chapter of the book. They then locate two words from the chapter that are referenced by the following clues:

a. A form of written communication
b. A name of a day of the week

2. They then create a title for their essay from these words. Any theme is permitted, as long as these two words are used in the title.

3. The essay itself should be between 400 and 600 words.

4. They (snail) mail their entry to Neeman House Publishers, 5135 South Garden Street, Seattle, WA 98118– entries must be postmarked on or before June 15th, 2007, and should include contact information. No email entries will be accepted. There is no fee to enter.

The judges are looking for creativity and originality but not something completely over-the-top. “There has to be some refinement in the writing. Certainly it should be creative but it should also be subtle. And, of course, poor spelling and grammar will hardly win any favor.”

The winner will be announced by August 1st and notified by phone. “If we are overwhelmed by entries and our noses are flat on the pages, we may have to extend the deadline.” With the winner’s consent, the winning entry will be posted to the site.

Don't forget to let us know if the publisher picks your essay :-)
